ByteDance announced that TikTok Music shutdown, their music streaming service, in November.
A notification on the TikTok Music website says, "We are sorry to inform you that TikTok Music will be closing on November 28, 2024." Indonesia, Brazil, Australia, Singapore, and Mexico may access the service.
According to the letter, subscribers can keep using the service till November 28 at which point renewals will be immediately canceled. Refund requests must be made by November 28 and playlist transfers must be completed by October 28 for users who wish to move them to other streaming providers.
Ole Obermann, TikTok's Global Head of Music Business Development, claims that hundreds of millions of songs have already been saved to playlists on partner streaming services thanks to the Add to Music App function. In order to advance TikTok's role in promoting greater music listening and appreciation on streaming services for music, for the good of creators, songwriters, and the industry, they will be shutting down TikTok Music from ByteDance music streaming at the end of November.
Rather than going up against music streaming services, TikTok stated that it will continue to collaborate with them. The business introduced the "Add to Music" option on TikTok in February, enabling users to add songs straight to an Apple Music, Amazon Music, or Spotify playlist. The relationship between TikTok and the music industry has also been rocky lately. Due to disputes over royalties, Universal Music Group removed its music catalog from the service earlier this year. TikTok responded by criticizing UMG for using "false narrative nad rhetoric." Both sides declared a ceasefire and agreed to a new agreement in March.
Separately, TikTok is battling a measure that might result in the short video app being prohibited in the United States. This may have interfered with ByteDance's efforts to bring TikTok Music to new markets, such as the United States.
