Egypt Vodafone and Telecom Egypt have inked several infrastructure service contracts totaling up to E£30 billion ($609 million).
Telecom Egypt will help Vodafone's Egypt 5G network deployment as a result of the agreements. Telecom Egypt will also extend its transmission services deal with Vodafone through 2031 as part of the agreement that was struck.
Telecom Egypt claims that the agreement with Vodafone is a component of their network monetization plan. It goes on to say that this approach aligns with Egypt's Vision 2030, which aims to promote digital transformation. As part of a four-year contract, Vodafone will also have access to Telecom Egypt's fiber optic network. Vodafone will do this by installing fiber at its mobile locations in Egypt.
Access to Telecom Egypt's Internet and virtual fixed voice services is another arrangement.
The agreements between Telecom Egypt and Vodafone Egypt, according to Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, are evidence of the substantial advancements made by Egypt's telecom and IT industry, especially with the awarding of 5G service licenses to telecom operators. These agreements form the foundation for the 5G rollout, allowing both firms to collaborate to provide residents with improved services, as 5G technology depends on a strong fiber optic network to connect supporting towers. The significant efforts to fortify mobile network Egypt 5G infrastructure in recent years should also be emphasized.
Together with Orange and e&, Telecom Egypt and Vodafone have obtained 5G licenses in Egypt this year, totaling around $675 million. According to Talaat, the number of telecom towers in Egypt has more than quadrupled in the last five years, surpassing 36,000, thanks to the efforts of mobile carrier and tower firms.
Although Telecom Egypt has already inked an agreement with network vendor Nokia to roll out its Egypt 5G network, none of Egypt's four major carriers have yet to provide 5G services.
