L&T multiple orders across iron ore, steel and zinc projects strengthen its order book and support India's growing mining and metals infrastructure expansion.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced that its Metals & Minerals business has secured several major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts from leading public and private sector companies across India. The projects cover iron ore, steel and zinc segments, reinforcing the company's position in the country's growing mining and metals ecosystem.
The contracts are classified by L&T as "mega" orders, a category generally associated with projects valued between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore, although the company has not disclosed the exact value of each deal.
A Major Push for Iron Ore Capacity
One of the most significant orders comes from India's largest iron ore producer, which is working toward increasing its production capacity to 100 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) by 2030.
Under the contract, L&T will develop an 18 MTPA Iron Ore Handling Plant in Chhattisgarh. The project includes designing and building a downhill conveyor system, screening facilities, stockpiles, yard equipment, a Rapid Wagon Loading System, and supporting infrastructure. The facility is expected to improve material handling efficiency and support future production growth.
Can Steel Expansion Meet Rising Industrial Demand?
L&T has also secured a contract from a Navratna public sector enterprise for the expansion of a steel plant in West Bengal. The project aims to increase the plant's production capacity from 2.5 MTPA to 7.1 MTPA.
As part of the assignment, the company will execute multiple Design & Build and Balance of Plant packages. Industry experts believe such expansions are crucial as demand for steel continues to rise across construction, infrastructure, manufacturing and transportation sectors.
“These wins reaffirm L&T's enduring leadership in the minerals and metals EPC sector and reflect the deep trust our customers place in our ability to deliver projects of exceptional scale and complexity,” said S. N. Subrahmanyan, Chairman and Managing Director of L&T.
Zinc Project Strengthens Private Sector Partnership
As Business Fortune observes, L&T has also secured an EPC contract from a leading private-sector metals company to build a zinc processing plant. The project covers design, engineering, procurement, installation, commissioning, and related site services.
This order highlights L&T's strong expertise in executing complex metals projects and further strengthens its partnership with the client.
The new contracts come as both public and private sector companies continue to invest in expanding India's mining and metals infrastructure. Going forward, rising investments in iron ore, steel, and non-ferrous metals are expected to create more growth opportunities for L&T and other EPC companies.
