As the SRC promises cooperation to enhance KNUST's online academic experience, Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah says the Center would increase student access to digital materials and active learning.
The leadership of the Students' Representative Council (SRC) has been informed by Professor Emmanuel Kofi Akowuah, the director of the KNUST E-Learning Center, that the Center intends to increase student access to digital learning resources and bolster support for online academic work.
He said this while speaking with SRC President Shakir Is-Haq Waiz and Vice President Justice Atuahene Frimpong on a podcast.
According to Professor Akowuah, the Center's responsibilities extend beyond overseeing online tests. He clarified that KNUST's e-learning encompasses instructional design, content creation, and technological platforms that facilitate teaching and learning throughout the university.
Any technology that facilitates instruction and learning is desirable, he said. One of the Center's responsibilities is to make sure that students engage in active learning in addition to receiving instructional materials.
According to the SRC leaders, their visit was a component of preliminary discussions with important entities they will collaborate with throughout their tenure.
Waiz described his visit as eye-opening, noting that many students only think of the E-Learning Center's computer-based exams and are not aware of its entire spectrum of offerings. According to him, the SRC intends to increase students' understanding of e-learning resources and their educational benefits.
Vice President Justice Atuahene Frimpong stated that although the university's online platform was difficult at first, it became better over time. He also mentioned that the Council will collaborate with the Center to make it more user-friendly for students.
Professor Akowuah highlighted the Center's studios as useful areas for experiential learning and urged students interested in digital content, design, or media production to use them.
According to the director, KNUST was able to continue academic work during COVID-19 thanks to years of investment in online education, which resulted in the unit's evolution into a center that serves the entire institution.
The SRC President urged students to take advantage of the Center's resources at the Casley Hayford Building, CCB Auditorium, and Library Mall, noting that studios and digital workspaces are available under certain conditions. To enhance the learning platform, he continued, the SRC will gather student input.
The E-Learning Center and the SRC decided to continue working together to improve digital learning, with the Center implementing more student-centered strategies and the SRC mobilizing student feedback.
