The product is a component of the CPG behemoth's larger drive to expand its yogurt brands into other, rapidly expanding food categories.
As the CPG looks to expand its yogurt brands into other food categories, Danone is making its first foray into the $7 billion protein shake industry. In response to customer demand for portable, functional nourishment, the Paris-based business is launching an Oikos protein shake. The first non-refrigerated version of one of Danone's yogurt products to hit the market is the Oikos Protein Shakes.
According to Danone, over three-quarters of Americans want to eat more protein, but it's not always simple to find a quick, nutrient-dense alternative that fits their hectic schedules. Oikos, which is already well-known for having high protein content, moves from the refrigerated department to the middle of the shop thanks to the protein shake. For protein shake consumers, who are more inclined to buy multiple packs and use the beverage more frequently as a meal replacement, a shelf-stable alternative may be a selling feature.
Oikos Protein has 30 grams of muscle-building quality in each 12-ounce bottle. The beverage also contains vitamins A and D to strengthen the immune system, 1 gram of sugar, and 5 grams of prebiotic fiber to assist digestive health.
Three flavors—vanilla, chocolate, and salted caramel—will be offered for the shakes. They will initially be offered at a few shops, such as Amazon, Kroger, and CVS, before making their way to Walmart, Costco, Target, and other major retail chains in the summer. They are presently making their way onto shelves. Oikos had a 40% increase in retail sales in 2024, surpassing $1 billion in sales for the first time, thanks to customer demand for nutrient-dense, healthier meals.
