Many new details about Monster Hunter Wilds were revealed, including the appearance of the evil Congala and the bird Yian Kut-Ku, during the Capcom Online Program and extended Scarlet Forest gameplay live at Tokyo Game Show 2024.
After a protracted absence, both monsters are making a comeback to the series. Here's a brief summary of everything we've discovered, along with developer commentary.
Congalala, the Fanged Beast—a Farting Pink Ape
Congalala's return to the series was hinted at by its pink armor in the Dual Blades showcase and was confirmed during the Scarlet Forest gameplay stream. Fans have long wanted Congalala back. This Fanged Beast, introduced in Monster Hunter Freedom 2 for PSP, resembles a gorilla with pink fur and often holds a mushroom in its tail.
Congalala assaults with foul-smelling belches that change according to what it eats and farts that spew debris. The "Truffle de Conga," a unique item that it can produce, is something that players can take and use for cooking. You should always carry deodorant when hunting in the Scarlet Forest because the stench from it can keep you from eating certain items. Thankfully, you may rapidly obtain the things you need in Monster Hunter Wilds thanks to the new Optimal Status Recovery option, which lessens the effects of the smell.
The first "Tutorial Monster," Yian Kut-Ku the Bird Wyvern
Yian Kut-Ku is the first flying monster players faced in the original Monster Hunter on PS2 and is the first returning monster announced after Rathalos. Similar to Congalala, Yian Kut-Ku is pink and resembles a quirky, scaly bird. Although it's quick and agile, it often trips when charging. It can also attack with fireballs, making it a useful source for Flame Sacs.
Yian Kut-Ku was picked as the first returning monster because it is a beloved character by fans, according to Kaname Fujioka, the executive and art director of Monster Hunter Wilds. He highlights their dedication to bringing back beloved monsters. Yian Kut-Ku's return in Wilds will allow players to experience how it interacts within the game's pack system, where numerous huge monsters can emerge together for the first time.
