In Mumbai, Dosti House commemorated 80 years of US-Indian cooperation, emphasizing cross-cultural interactions and the power of art to fortify bonds.
On Tuesday night, Dosti House at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, previously the American Centre, which was located in South Mumbai at the time, commemorated 80 years of the US-India alliance. Since its founding in 1944, the Center has sought to strengthen ties between the United States and India.
On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, the US consulate's members and visitors will celebrate the 80th anniversary of the US-India alliance at Dosti House BKC in Mumbai, India.
Dosti House serves as an American place in India and offers much more than just a library. Dosti House is a place where Americans and Indians can meet and share ideas, according to Greg Pardo, the spokesperson for the US consulate general. It is their method of fortifying the bonds between these two nations.
The venue hosts a variety of events, including cultural performances, panels on topics such as human rights and women's economic empowerment, and seminars for young people on topics like filmmaking and business. Additionally, the library contains the newest technology, like virtual reality glasses and 3D printers. According to Gloria Berbena, the US embassy's minister-counsellor for public diplomacy, they are using innovation to establish fair access to connection and education.
The library was turned into a place for exchanging memories and experiences and connecting over art and culture for the 80th anniversary festivities. Following an energetic rendition of Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive" by a group of diplomats, the celebration moved on to Dosti House, where the Indian experience was showcased. Speaking about their special experiences at and close relationship with the library were Justice Roshan S. Dalvi, poet-author Rochelle Potkar, frequent library user Priyanka Yadav, and English literature instructor Kavita Peter of K C College.
While Potkar described her experience as a writer at the University of Iowa's International Writing Program's autumn residency, Justice Dalvi talked about her passion for reading and her experiences checking out books from the library. Peter discussed the student trips she had organized to the library, while Yadav emphasized the vibrant atmosphere of the establishment.
