Polestar has revealed a glimpse of its next design era with a new concept car that could shape the look of its upcoming electric models.
Formula 2030, the latest concept car from Polestar, gives a sneak preview of what the future holds for this Swedish electric performance car brand. The Polestar Formula 2030 is confirmed on September 7, 2026 as part of the manufacturer’s future plan that is intended to help improve its business and profitability.
The concept concentrates on three aspects that Polestar has already been focusing on, namely performance, technology, and sustainability. The new concept will also present a modern perspective on Scandinavian design language of the brand, both exterior and interior.
More importantly, the Formula 2030 is not simply a design exercise. Its styling previews elements expected to appear on the next Polestar 2, planned for 2027, as well as the upcoming Polestar 7 compact SUV, expected in 2028.
Why is Polestar changing its design?
Polestar is aiming for evolution rather than a complete redesign. Philipp Römers, the company’s Head of Design, said the brand already has a strong identity and needs to build on it rather than start again.
“Formula 2030 delivers this, showcasing our future while respecting brand-defining elements like the familiar Dual Blade headlights,” Römers said.
That approach means the concept is expected to look futuristic while remaining clearly connected to current Polestar models.
When will the public see the concept car?
The Formula 2030 concept will first be shown privately to Polestar investors, retailers and selected VIP customers at The Cube, the company’s headquarters in Gothenburg. A wider global debut is planned later in 2026 during the media drive for the Polestar 4 SUV.
The reveal is taking place amid a difficult phase for Polestar. This is because the automaker cut its sales forecast for 2026 following disappointing first half financial results and has also faced regulatory hurdles in the US market. Despite those challenges, CEO Michael Lohscheller said operational improvements were beginning to show results, including a 43% reduction in reported operating loss during the first half of 2026 compared with the previous year.
What does the future hold for Polestar?
With the next Polestar 2, Polestar 7 and Polestar 6 roadster in the pipeline, Business Fortune believes that the Formula 2030 concept could become an important marker for the company’s next generation of electric vehicles. Its biggest impact may come when these future models turn the concept’s design ideas into production cars.
