China launches new visa to attract international tech talent, offering an easier alternative to the US H-1B visa.
China announced a new "K" visa program for science and technology experts, which is expected to be the Chinese equivalent of the US H-1B visa, in an effort to attract foreign talent and modern technology in the face of President Donald Trump's tougher US immigration legal.
According to AFP, Vaishnavi Srinivasagopalan, a talented Indian IT expert who has worked in both India and the US, might be enabled to achieve her dream of working in China due to the new program.
Srinivasagopalan stated that the A K visa in China is equal to the H-1B visa in the US. Also, her father worked at a Chinese university for a few decades, so she has respect for the culture and work environment in China. For those like her who wish to work in another country, it's a good opportunity.
The K visa, which has fewer demands, such as not requiring applicants to have a job offer before submitting an application, complements current Chinese visa programs, like the R visa for foreign experts.
According to Bikash Kali Das, an Indian master's student in international relations at Sichuan University in China, students studying in the US used to aim to get an H-1B visa, but that is now a concern.
Some non-US professionals and students are apparently thinking of going abroad as a result of Trump's tougher US policies toward foreign students and researchers, which include raising the H-1B visa fee for skilled foreign workers to $100,000 for fresh applications.
