Atlassian today announced its consolidation of Jira Software and Jira Work Management into a unified product, adopting the "Jira" brand at its Team '24 event in Las Vegas.
Atlassian's primary project management tool, Jira, has its roots in software development and issue tracking for engineers. However, in recent years, the business has begun to release Jira versions for other teams as well. One of these was Jira Work Management, which replaced the Jira Core product and was introduced in 2021 for the use of business teams like marketing, sales, and human resources.
In today's release, Dave Meyer, Jira's Head of Product, emphasized that successful teams are created through coordinated work, shared objectives, and open communication among departments. As a result, the latest version of Jira offers a centralized space where all teams can collaborate on goals and priorities, collaborate and contribute to projects, and access the information required to create something truly extraordinary. By combining the best features of Jira Work Management and Jira Software, Atlassian has developed a unified project management solution capable of elevating any team from good to exceptional.
The goal is to provide a cross-functional tool that simplifies project tracking and collaboration for different teams within an organization. While Jira Software and Jira Work Management previously had connections, with Work Management being free for every Jira subscription, Atlassian asserts that this merged version will facilitate seamless collaboration among diverse teams, including engineers, marketers, designers, and more. It will foster alignment towards common goals and significantly reduce any potential friction.
It's important to note that this change has no impact on Jira Service Management for IT teams.
