Google launches Gemini Intelligence for smarter Android devices, introducing AI automation, cross-app tasks, and voice tools on Samsung Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10.
Google has announced a major AI upgrade for Android called Gemini Intelligence, introducing features designed to make smartphones more proactive, personalized and capable of handling tasks automatically. The Google Gemini Intelligence announcement came during The Android Show: I/O Edition 2026, where the company revealed its broader vision of turning Android into what it calls an “intelligence system.”
The first wave of features will arrive this summer on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 and Google Pixel 10 devices, before expanding to more Android products later in 2026.
Android Moving Beyond Simple Voice Assistants
With Gemini Intelligence, Google wants Android devices to do more than respond to commands. The system is designed to understand context, connect information across apps, and complete tasks with minimal effort from users.
Google demonstrated examples where Gemini could:
-
Book spin classes automatically
-
Find study material from Gmail
-
Add books to shopping carts
-
Create shopping lists from photos
-
Search tours from travel brochure images
Gemini Intelligence makes android devices smarter but the company says users will still remain in control, as Gemini will ask for permission before performing sensitive actions. The update also expands beyond smartphones. Google confirmed Gemini Intelligence will eventually work across tablets, laptops, cars, smartwatches, and future smart glasses.
Can Your Phone Start Handling Tasks Before You Even Ask
One of the biggest highlights is cross-app automation. Instead of switching between apps manually, users can ask Gemini to complete multi-step tasks across services.
For example, while viewing a grocery list on-screen, users can reportedly long-press the power button and ask Gemini to add all items into a shopping cart automatically.
Google is also introducing visual context triggers in which Gemini can understand what appears on the screen or inside images and respond with relevant actions. The company believes these features will reduce daily friction and make Android devices more useful in real-world situations.
Smarter Browsing Inside Chrome
Google is also bringing Gemini directly into Google Chrome on Android. Starting later in June, Gemini-powered Chrome features will help users:
-
Summarize websites
-
Compare information across pages
-
Research topics faster
-
Handle repetitive tasks like bookings and reservations
The browser upgrade reflects Google’s larger push to integrate AI into everyday browsing experiences.
Smarter Voice, Widgets, and Autofill
Another major addition is Rambler, a new AI-powered voice-to-text tool. Unlike traditional voice typing, Rambler is designed to convert casual conversations into cleaner written text. Google says the feature supports multilingual speech, including mixed-language conversations like English and Hindi spoken in the same sentence.
The update also introduces “Create My Widget,” allowing users to generate custom Android widgets simply by typing text prompts.
Meanwhile, Autofill with Google is becoming smarter through Gemini’s Personal Intelligence system, which can pull details from connected apps to fill lengthy forms automatically. Google says the feature will remain optional and can be disabled anytime.
Safer AI with a Smarter Android Future
Google highlighted that privacy protections are central to Gemini Intelligence. According to the company, users must approve sensitive actions before Gemini can proceed. Some processing will also happen inside Private AI Compute environments, designed to protect personal information while still enabling AI-powered features. These protections will work alongside broader privacy and scam detection upgrades expected with Android 17.
As Business Fortune observes, Gemini Intelligence signals a major shift in how Android devices may function in the coming years. Instead of simply reacting to commands, smartphones are gradually becoming systems that anticipate needs, automate repetitive tasks, and personalize experiences practically.
