Osmania General Hospital launches free 3D-printed artificial limbs for poor patients with the support of Rogi Sahayata Trust, facilitating the supply for free of cost.

Osmania General Hospital (OGH), the biggest and oldest tertiary care facility in Telangana, provides lightweight 3D-printed artificial limbs for poor patients who have had amputations due to accident or problems from diabetes. Dr. Rakesh Sahay, the hospital superintendent, opened the new facility, which will supply artificial limbs and be managed by the departments of endocrinology, general surgery, and orthopedics.

Advanced technology, lightweight materials, and 3D printing are used to create artificial limbs that precisely match each patient's proportions and enable them to walk without experiencing any pressure. Each replacement limb costs around Rs 25,000 and the patients who are in need will receive them for free with the support of the Rogi Sahayata Trust. Dr. Sahay thanked the Trust for helping to provide these artificial limbs at no cost.

Ten patients with lower limb amputations received the special, lightweight, 3D-printed aartificial limbs following the opening of the new facility. One of them received artificial limbs after having both lower limbs removed. Patients can contact the facility's endocrinology and orthopaedic departments or the Foot Care Center. After the doctor’s medical certification, measurements will be obtained and forwarded to the manufacturer, who will then provide 3D printed artificial limbs.

Last year, Osmania has introduced 24/7 patient assistance services for the first time, marking a significant step toward improving care in one of Telangana’s busiest public hospitals. The initiative includes a dedicated help desk and helpline designed to support patients with emergency The program, implemented in collaboration with the Helping Hand Foundation and supported by the Basheer & Sarwar Babu Khan Human Development Trust, also extends care to vulnerable and homeless patients by coordinating with social health workers.
