Business Fortune-Microsoft Exits Pakistan After 25 Yrs

After 25 years, Microsoft quietly ends its operations in Pakistan, posing difficult questions regarding the business environment in the nation.

Microsoft is no longer in Pakistan. After 25 years, the software behemoth is leaving Pakistan. Over the past several years, Microsoft reportedly reduced its workforce and activities in Pakistan before completely leaving the nation. In June 2000, Microsoft began operations in Pakistan. Jawwad Rehman, the original founder and national manager of Microsoft Pakistan, initially announced on LinkedIn that the company was closing its operations in Pakistan. The business itself hasn't made any official public announcements. But according to a TechRadar article, the relocation was essentially finalized previously, with only a liaison office and about five personnel left after full operations in Pakistan were shut down.

Jawwad Rehman claimed in the article that he found out today that Microsoft is formally shutting down its operations in Pakistan. After the final few workers were properly notified, an era came to an end. He had the privilege of founding and serving as the CEO of Microsoft Pakistan in June 2000, precisely twenty-five years ago.

In continuation, Rehman said that the news of today compels contemplation and that Microsoft's decision to leave Pakistan demands it. This isn't just a company departure. The climate their nation has produced is a depressing indication. Even multinational behemoths like Microsoft find it untenable to remain in it. The succeeding team and regional management of Microsoft also consider what was done (or not done) with the solid foundation they left behind.

He went on to say that it's time to find out what has changed in Pakistan that has caused multinational companies to abandon the nation. What changed, they must wonder? What was gone? What became of the principles, vision, and leadership that once enabled it all?

After giving it some more thought, he stated that Allah bestows honor and opportunity to those He chooses and takes it away from those who forfeit it. However, if your efforts inspire, affect, and uphold integrity, know that Allah was on your side.

In a different tweet, Rehman urged the Pakistani government and the IT minister to aggressively engage Microsoft's regional and global leadership in order to keep the company's presence in Pakistan.
