Maharashtra Launches New Innovation Center to Strengthen Pharma and Biotech Growth

Maharashtra Unveils New Innovation Hub

The state plans a new innovation and incubation center to support research, startups and investment in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology and health sciences.

The Maharashtra government has announced plans to create a Life Sciences Innovation and Incubation Center to support research and development in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries with the aim of developing the state as a broad hub for health and life sciences innovation.

According to Food and Drug Administration (FDA) minister Narahari Zirwal the proposed center will serve as an important factor for attracting new investment into Maharashtra's pharmaceutical manufacturing ecosystem and strengthening its leadership in creative medication research.

Zirwal stated that the innovation center is being created as an advanced facility to speed up pharmaceutical R&D and biotechnology is expected to play an essential part in improving Maharashtra's health sciences environment. Also he specified similar research hubs have already established in other states including Gujarat Andhra Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh and that formulation laboratories for biological and chemical research are developed through public-private partnerships.

The FDA minister stated that the new Life Sciences Innovation and Incubation Center will create a combined ecosystem for innovation by supporting advanced work in the fields of pharmaceuticals biotechnology medical devices diagnostics and digital health. In addition to organized instruction and mentoring intended to help them in developing major solutions for international markets startups and new companies will have access to advanced laboratories technical expertise and financial support.

According to Narahari Zirwal the facility will improve the state's ability to produce advanced pharmaceuticals and contribute to providing excellent opportunities for employment. The facility which is positioned as a world-class research institution aims to support Maharashtra's goals of becoming a leading hub for biotech and pharmaceutical investment and innovation as well as the creation of pharmaceutical products that are competitive on a universal scale.
