The Gen 8 modular battery system by Envision Energy changes storage with its improved capacity, scalable design, and reduced project costs.
China's Envision Energy introduced the most advanced battery energy storage innovation at Beijing's Tech Day. The Gen 8 Scalable Platform provides a wide range of modular designs. The Gen 8 platform offers flexibility onsite and reduces balance-of-plant (BoP) work, based on the skid-based modular design of Generation 6. Also, by using a new 750+ Ah cell, it also improves the energy density improvements of Generation 7's 5 MWh containers.
High energy density is combined with a 10-foot modular design, which is lighter and easier to move, all without losing operating efficiency, installation, or transportation. As well, it allows applications that require more than four hours and energy storage capacities of 6 MWh, 8 MWh, 10 MWh, 12 MWh, and possibly greater capacities per unit. The weight of each unit is less than 29 tons.
Envision initially building high-capacity cells within a 20-foot container. The company introduced an 8 MWh system with 700 Ah lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells in September, previous year. However, due to its around 55-ton weight, this container exceeds road weight limits in many nations across the world and presents logistical challenges.
The high-capacity 750+ Ah cell platform provides higher energy density, a 26% smaller footprint for typical 4-hour systems, and 12% lower auxiliary power use, this reduce project costs and increase service life. As a result, the Gen 8 platform provides complete control through SCADA, EMS, and hybrid PPC solutions for revenue optimization and predictive maintenance.
