Business Fortune: AMCM Hits Space 3D Print Milestone

Large-format metal 3D printing is in high demand in the aerospace industry, as evidenced by the order for a powerful AMCM M 4K system from a California space manufacturer.

The industrial 3D printing firm, which specializes in supplying custom large-format multi-laser machines, said on LinkedIn that a California manufacturer working in the space sector had ordered an AMCM M 4K with four 1 kW lasers, marking the achievement of the milestone. According to reports, the system will enable the manufacturing of combustion chambers in CuCr1Zr by joining an existing fleet of AMCM M 4K systems.

Over the last seven years, users in the aerospace and space industries have embraced AMCM's technology, which is based on EOS's signature laser powder bed technology. AMCM is a part of the EOS Group. The company's most current product, the AMCM M 8K, has eight 1kW lasers as standard and can be updated to use the same nLight AFX light sources as its M290 FLX system. Longtime clients like Sintavia and ArianeGroup have used the machine to make complicated, large-format parts like rocket engines because it can produce sections up to 820 x 820 x 1200 mm in difficult materials like copper.

The achievement demonstrates the increasing need for large-format metal printing, especially in sectors like space and aviation, where additive manufacturing is a well-suited solution due to its capacity to print massive monolithic components with intricate internal structures and integrated cooling chambers.
