Walmart is cutting hundreds of jobs in store support and training roles as part of a broader restructuring aimed at simplifying operations and reducing friction for store staff.
The largest retailer in America, Walmart, has announced a new round of layoffs. According to Bloomberg, hundreds of workers in the store's assistance and training division will be affected by the latest round of layoffs. Although the corporation has not revealed how many workers would be let go, sources suggest that hundreds of workers in multiple locations will be impacted by this round of layoffs.
The company's restructuring activities include the decision to cut staff to streamline operations and adjust to changing retail environments. According to Bloomberg, Wal-Mart US senior vice president of store operations Cedric Clark informed staff members in a memo that the business is eliminating market coordinator roles, a corporate function that supports market managers in charge of several stores. In the memo, Cedric Clark stated that they are streamlining their market support system, which will decrease touchpoints and friction for their retail staff.
Additionally, the message emphasized that the job losses are a part of a move to streamline the market support structure and lessen friction and touchpoints for retail workers. At Walmart Academy, the training division for store managers and staff, the retailer is also getting rid of coach and coordinator positions. Additionally, the article states that the impacted staff members will be allowed to work as store-level coaches in their communities.
