With its new 'Heart of Joy' system, BMW promises an exciting EV experience as the market for electric hypercars declines. The company doubles down on both gas and electric M3s.

It has been difficult to market supercharged performances, with a few notable exceptions. Due to little demand, Maserati discontinued the MC20's electric variant. As the EV sits on dealer lots, Dodge is apparently pushing the gasoline-powered version of the new Charger into production. Rimac has acknowledged that the market for electric hypercars has decreased. Nevertheless, BMW stated that both gasoline-powered and battery-powered versions of the next-generation M3 would be available, and it is certain that it can persuade aficionados to purchase the EV.

Frank van Meel, the head of BMW M, stated that it will be challenging to maintain his preference for the combustion engine as they have already declared that they will have two M3s. Plus, the electric one will be something entirely unique. The electric Vision Driving Experience concept, which was revealed in February 2025, was a clear glimpse of how BMW M views high-performance EVs, but he refrained from giving any specifics because the new M3 is still a few years away from making its appearance, and he is obliged by corporate omertà.

As seen above, the experimental sedan's powertrain and driving dynamics management technologies are operated by a brand-new, production-bound control unit known as Heart of Joy. According to the Hagerty reports, this supercomputer will improve the driving experience and is up to ten times quicker than the one it replaces. According to BMW, drivers may anticipate handling that is more accurate and steady than what is now achievable with technology.
