Jaguar's New EV Prototype Showcases Bold, Oversized Design

The electric Jag prototype seems imposingly enormous in a spy video.

By abandoning all gas-powered vehicles and switching to electric cars, Jaguar is undergoing an electric revolution. By increasing quality, boosting pricing, and producing fewer cars, it is also becoming more upscale. The Type 00 design released in December served as a preview of this majestic grand tourer, which is where it all began. Now, a prototype has been seen pacing Spain's streets. The GT's huge footprint cannot be concealed, even with its considerable camouflage.

This test automobile is powered by no combustion engine, despite its intimidatingly large bonnet begging for a V-8 or a V-12. High-end consumers hardly care about the engines that power their luxury vehicles, according to Rawdon, managing director of Jaguar.

The prototype just makes fake noises from a sound-emitting device that has been required on EVs in the EU for a several years; there is no cat purr. The electric Jag now includes rear doors in addition to side mirrors to replace the concept's cameras. Despite the car's enormous size, the back doors are not very large.

Other modifications to the design are undoubtedly concealed behind the concealment. In any event, even if the production version won't be as dramatic as the Type 00, it will still have an intriguing appearance. It's a welcome surprise that Jaguar took the risk of starting the EV revolution with a vehicle other than an SUV. It had intended to introduce an electric XJ, but this snarky GT took the place of that electric flagship.
