Citizens Financial Chief Beth Johnson Retires After 11 Years

With effect from March 3, 2025, Beth Johnson will step down as vice chair and chief experience officer of Citizens Financial Group, one of the biggest retail banks in the United States with $217.5 billion in assets.

Johnson is a member of the bank's executive committee and has been employed by the organization, which has its headquarters in Providence, Rhode Island, for more than 11 years.

She has been in charge of managing a portfolio that includes the bank's sustainability and impact initiatives, data and analytics, marketing and communications, enterprise payments strategy, and customer experience and digital design since 2020.

According to Citizens Financial Group chairman and CEO Bruce Van Saun, Johnson's choice to leave the bank to pursue other interests coincides with her portfolio reaching new heights and achieving remarkable success. Additionally, he stated that a smooth transition to transfer the Enterprise Experience duties to other top leaders at Citizens has been meticulously prepared.

The bank hired Paymentus, a paytech company located in North Carolina, in 2023 to provide its range of electronic bill payment and money transfer services.

Johnson clarified at the time that the collaboration was necessary to satisfy changing consumer demands, including the requirement to incorporate real-time payment capabilities.
