The South East Technological University (SETU) workers have received a message of solidarity from major French unions regarding Red Hat and their ties to the Israeli military.

The controversial connections between Red Hat and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have prompted Solidaires Informatique to express support for Red Hat employees, especially those at SETU.

Red Hat employees in Ireland and around the world, along with the employees of educational institutions Red Hat has ties to, like SETU Ireland, have the right to express their disapproval of the company's unethical practices in light of the ongoing human rights abuses and militarized oppression against Palestinians, the union wrote in a statement. Employees must be able to voice concerns about the company's actions as a group without fear of retaliation or punishment.

Since October 7, 2023, hundreds of Palestinians have died, prompting demands for SETU and Red Hat Israeli military ties to cut over the previous year. Israeli military action and sanctions have resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinian men, women, and children.

A customer success profile on Red Hat Ireland's website praised their Mamram technology. Red Hat has already produced several significant achievements for IDF, and Mamram concluded that Red Hat would be a perfect partner after thoroughly examining Red Hat's edge computing future. To assist steer the project through, Mamram specifically relied on Red Hat Consulting, including its solution architects and professional services support.

More than 180 SETU employees signed a letter in May 2024 urging the institution to break up its connection with Red Hat and demand a long-term truce.
