DayOne Data Centers partners with Sembcorp to explore reliable power solutions, supporting Asia’s growing AI infrastructure and renewable energy ambitions.
Singapore-headquartered digital infrastructure platform DayOne Data Centers has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Sembcorp Utilities, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sembcorp Industries, to explore energy solutions for its data centre developments across Asia. The deal includes on-site power infrastructure, generation, fuel provision, renewable energy and operations & maintenance. Sembcorp will be the technical partner in selected projects as AI adoption creates demand for reliable power.
Addressing Data Centre Power Requirements
The MOU will provide both companies an opportunity to evaluate solutions for the regional developments of DayOne, such as power generation, electricity, fuel and renewable energy. They will look into the viability of implementing solutions for agreed projects.
This partnership is meant to back DayOne’s Bring Your Own Power campaign, which integrates energy planning at an early stage of building a data center. The strategy intends to find a right source of energy, cope with the limitations in the electricity market and give customers more certainty.
Leaders Stress Integrated Infrastructure Planning
The CEO and President of Gas and Related Services at Sembcorp, Koh Chiap Khiong, stated that AI will require energy solutions that could keep up with the rapid build-up of data centers. The collaboration will be useful in exploring energy solutions for their developments, he further mentioned.
According to the CEO of DayOne, Mr. Jamie Khoo, energy solutions should be planned in conjunction with digital infrastructure. It is because the firm starts looking at land, power, energy and other resource considerations from the onset. This partnership will help the firm look for integrated solutions as it grows throughout Asia.
Renewable Energy Initiatives across Asia
This agreement comes on top of other energy projects carried out by DayOne. For instance, in Singapore, DayOne has a power purchase agreement with Sembcorp that will see its forthcoming SG1 data center powered fully with renewable energy.
Renewable energy deals in the range of 1.5GWp solar energy capacity and 2.2GWh battery storage were made by DayOne in June 2026 in Malaysia under the Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme. DayOne in Thailand has a power purchase agreement for renewable energy at its data centre campus at Chonburi Tech Park.
DayOne plans to run 100% on renewable energy by 2030 as far as market conditions permit. Sembcorp, on the other hand, has entered into an MOU with Nxera Singapore to study renewable and low-carbon energy for data centres. It has recently been designated an approved aggregator by Singapore Economic Development Board biomethane sandbox.
Thus, Business Fortune believes that strategic energy partnerships will play a crucial role in supporting Asia’s expanding data centre infrastructure and accelerating its renewable energy transition.
