42dot, the software of Hyundai Motor Group, has launched Gleo AI, a next-generation in-vehicle voice assistant powered by large language models that enables natural conversations and direct control of car functions.
42dot has introduced a new in built vehicle voice AI system called Gleo AI, marking a major step in Hyundai Motor Group’s software-defined vehicle (SDV) strategy. The company says Hyundai’s Gleo AI features are designed to communicate more naturally with drivers and passengers while directly controlling vehicle functions through conversation.
The technology was first introduced in Hyundai Grandeur and is expected to expand across Hyundai Motor Group models in the future.
Gleo AI is built to talk like a human
Unlike traditional in-car voice assistants that rely on fixed commands, Gleo AI is designed to understand natural conversations, driving conditions, and even the seating position of the person speaking. Powered by large language model (LLM) technology, the system can understand the context of a conversation, identify user intent, carry out tasks, and generate human-like responses in real time.
This allows drivers to speak casually instead of memorizing robotic commands.
For example, users can ask the system to:
-
Set navigation destinations
-
Adjust air conditioning
-
Control music and media
-
Change vehicle settings
Access external information and summaries
The system can even react differently depending on whether the request comes from the driver’s seat or a passenger seat.
Could your car understand you better than your phone
That is the direction Hyundai appears to be moving toward. Gleo AI combines on-device AI and cloud computing to improve both speed and reliability.
Functions linked to vehicle safety are handled directly inside the car for faster response times and lower risk of delays. More advanced tasks requiring higher computing power are processed through cloud-based systems.
42dot also developed its own voice technologies optimized for driving environments, including:
-
LLM-based text-to-speech systems
-
Multilingual speech recognition
-
Speech preprocessing for noisy road conditions
The company says the AI can maintain natural conversations even while the vehicle is moving.
Safety remains a major focus
To prevent misuse, 42dot added a self-developed “guardrail agent” that blocks dangerous or inappropriate requests before they are carried out. Vehicle controls are also checked against driving conditions before commands are activated. This helps ensure that convenience does not compromise safety.
Industry experts believe AI-powered in-car agents could become one of the biggest competitive advantages in the future SDV market, especially as vehicles evolve into connected and personalized digital platforms.
Hyundai is building a smarter driving future
As Business Fortune notes, the launch comes as Hyundai Motor Group strengthens its AI, autonomous driving, and SDV operations under the leadership of 42dot CEO Park Min-woo. 42dot plans to continue improving Gleo AI through over-the-air software updates, stronger on-device AI systems, and personalized recommendation features.
Park described Gleo AI as more than just a voice assistant. He said the long-term goal is to create an AI mobility companion that understands driver behavior, predicts needs, and provides help even before users ask for it.
