Google Cloud and Nexi sign MoU to enable AI-driven agentic commerce, secure digital payments, fraud detection, and next-generation shopping experiences across Europe.
Google Cloud and Nexi Group, a prominent European paytech, today announced a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a foundation for the upcoming wave of digital commerce. The partnership's main goal is to assist agentic commerce, in which AI agents independently handle customers' shopping experiences and make safe payments on their behalf, only with their express consent. Nexi will use Google Cloud technologies concurrently to improve operational efficiency on all of its primary platforms.
The company’s goal under the MoU is to integrate Google Cloud's advanced AI and data infrastructure with Nexi's vast European payment network and acquire expertise. In order to enable agentic purchasing experiences and payments, Nexi is also dedicated to supporting open-source commerce standards including the Universal Commerce Protocol (UCP) and Agent Payments Protocol (AP2).
Nexi's chief business officer, merchant solutions, Roberto Catanzaro, believes they are entering an era in which AI agents will increasingly arrange commerce on behalf of consumers. By adopting the UCP and AP2 protocols alongside other prominent payment and technology companies, they will help create the European ecosystem for this transformative shift. To achieve this goal, they will use the extensive knowledge of European requirements, leadership in the e-commerce mid-market, and wide network of partners, including local platforms and ISVs.
In addition to assessing strategies to improve Nexi's operational effectiveness, internal real-time fraud detection, and merchant onboarding, the companies plan to investigate next-generation agentic shopping trips. Additionally, the partnership seeks to establish a safe space where digital intent can be transformed into smooth, approved transactions.
