India celebrates 77th Republic Day with 'Vande Mataram' theme, Kartavya Path parade

India marked its 77th Republic Day with cultural pride, military power, and strong diplomacy as PM Modi, President Murmu, and EU leaders led celebrations at Kartavya Path.

India marked the 77th celebration of Republic Day on Monday (January 26, 2026) with an elaborate display of India's unique culture through various festivities held at Kartavya Path. The main theme of 2026 was the 150th Anniversary of Vande Mataram as the National Song. There were cultural performances and tableau featuring this song throughout the entire Republic Day celebrations.

The Republic Day ceremony commenced at 10.30 AM with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying floral tributes at the National War Memorial to commemorate all those who gave their lives while in the service of country. Following this, the Prime Minister joined the dignitaries and general public in receiving the National Salute from the Indian President Droupadi Murmu during the ceremony who also hoisted the National Flag and provided the customary 21-Gun Salute to all in attendance at the event.

As part of the ceremony, guests of honour who are members of the European Union were present at the event, including Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, both holding the highest positions with respect to the European Commission and the European Council respectively. Their attendance signified the strengthening diplomatic ties between the countries of Europe and India and paved the way for the development of the forthcoming India-EU Strategic Agenda regarding Trade and Regional Cooperation.

The grand parade featured many forms of Military Capability and Cultural Diversity throughout the country of India, including but not limited to the Arjun Tanks and Deep Strikes Suryastra Rocket Launchers displayed during the Defence portion of the parade, in addition to the BrahMos and Akash Missile Systems that were on display; as well as the traditional units represented (Zanskar Horses, etc.).
