Rahul Gandhi outlines a Delhi march ahead of the INDIA bloc rally, while police flag permission concerns and security restrictions across the capital.
Rahul Gandhi has invited opposition leaders, political workers, journalists and citizens to join a march in Delhi ahead of the Rahul Gandhi INDIA Bloc Rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The planned march will be initiated at noon from the Minto Road junction near Connaught Place, passing through Ajmeri Gate to reach Ramlila Maidan. But sources within the Delhi Police have stated that there has been no request for permission to conduct this march.
What Did Rahul Gandhi Announce Ahead of the INDIA Bloc Rally?
In a post on X on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi informed people about the proposed path and schedule for the walk, urging everyone to march towards Ramlila Maidan together. The march is scheduled to start from the Minto Road junction at 12 noon and end at the rally venue.
This decision is made before an important meeting of the INDIA group that is planned on November 1. The alliance of opposition parties intends to gather politicians and citizens to highlight the problems associated with the work of democratic bodies and the Election Commission.
Meanwhile, according to the Delhi Police sources, they did not receive any application for the permission of marching from Connaught Place. The police further stated that the Members of Parliament and political leaders could come by their own means of transport to Constitution Club, the residence of Mallikarjun Kharge or to other places.
Why Did Rahul Gandhi Invite People to March?
Gandhi urged people from all sections of society to join the march, ranging from political parties, civil society organizations, journalists and social service organizations.
He claimed that the democracy of the country was under threat by the government of Narendra Modi and attacked the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
It was also alleged that there were attempts to stop the residents of other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab and Telangana from coming to Delhi for the rally.
However, the INDIA group had organized another program related to the proposed impeachment of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. The program was deferred from Friday to Saturday at 3:30 pm due to rains.
The meeting is to be held at 10, Rajaji Marg, which is the address of the Congress president, Mallikarjun Kharge. As per Rahul Gandhi, this decision was made to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the leaders who will be attending the event.
Where Will the INDIA Bloc Rally Take Place?
The demonstration will be held at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1. According to the sources in Delhi Police, there will be heavy security cover at the venue, with deployment of people from various police districts, such as Central District.
The police also drew attention to the fact that Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) continues to be operative in the entire New Delhi region, including places close to the Election Commission.
Jantar Mantar, traditionally used for public protests, has also been denotified as a protest site.
The March and rally planned are likely to bring the issues of INDIA bloc regarding democratic structures and the Election Commission into the limelight.
Thus, Business Fortune believes that the INDIA bloc rally could strengthen opposition unity and bring renewed attention to concerns over democratic institutions and electoral accountability.
