Russia allegedly accuses Ukraine of attempting to attack President Putin’s residence with 91 drones on Monday, Ukraine denies.
On Monday Russia accused Ukraine of attempting to attack President Vladimir Putin’s residence in northern Russia, amid the existing conflict. The claim was denied by Ukraine, calling it fabricated and aimed to justify further Russian strikes in the future and undermining peace efforts.
Following Putin residence drone attack, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Ukraine executed the overnight drone strike on the presidential palace in the Novgorod area. According to Lavrov, Russian air defenses seized and destroyed 91 long-range drones, with no fatalities or material damage. He called the alleged act "state terrorism" and warned that Russia would respond.
Russia drone attack allegation was strongly denied by Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned it as "another round of lies," alleging that Moscow was aiming to destroy diplomatic progress and create an excuse for further assaults on Kyiv. He also said that Moscow was purposely raising the temperature of the language during important international talks.
Zelenskyy told reporters via WhatsApp that the accusation was intended to destroy progress in Ukraine-US peace negotiations. He asked US President Donald Trump to address what he regarded as Russian threats. While Russia alleges 91 drone attack on Putin residence, Russia was getting ready to attack Ukrainian government buildings.
On Monday, Putin asked Russian forces to intensify their campaign to seize full control of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region in the south. However, it remains unclear whether President Putin was present at the Novgorod residence when the alleged drone attack took place. Further, on Russia drone attack allegation, Trump says that it is not the right time and it is not good to attack Putin’s residence. And when asked if there was any evidence of such an attack, Trump said, "We'll find out."
In the further development of Putin residence drone attack, President Putin directed the Russian military to accelerate operations aimed at seizing complete control of the Zaporizhzhia area in southern Ukraine. A Russian commander reported that forces were currently around 15 kilometers from the region's main city.
With Russia threats of revenge and Ukraine accusing Moscow of fabricating the attack, the situation has gotten even more heated. The debate demonstrates how delicate current diplomatic talks are and how swiftly military and political tensions may rise.
