Business Fortune: Gehlot Calls Youth, Women in Agri

At Krishi Mela 2025 in Dharwad, Governor Gehlot called on youth and women to launch agri start-ups and adopt modern farming to boost profitability.

Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot made the statement in Dharwad on Sunday, encouraging young people, particularly those with training in agricultural sciences, to embrace innovation and create agribusinesses. He was addressing the University of Agricultural Sciences' Krishi Mela 2025 opening.

The governor urged farmers to take full advantage of government programs created for their benefit and discussed the necessity of turning agriculture into a lucrative business. To promote the growth of agricultural and related industries, the Union and State governments have started a number of projects.

He asserts that innovation and entrepreneurship are essential in the agricultural sector and other associated domains. He urged young people and women to become more active in the agricultural sector. Growing in popularity are agri-startups, processing facilities, organic farming, and agri-tourism. According to him, women who work in agriculture improve family income and nutritional security.

According to the Governor, who traced the cultural origins of Indian agriculture, their sages regarded farming as both a sacred deed and a duty, characterizing the farmer as Annadatta. Despite India's transition from traditional to modern agriculture, there is still a need to address the fact that some crops' yield is still below the global average.

The significance of high-quality seeds was again emphasized by the governor. With a valuation of US$6.3 billion, India's seed industry is ranked fifth in the world. According to him, the Seed Mela's goal is to bring farmers and scientists together directly so they may choose the seeds that are ideal for their farms and adopt new varieties.
