Business Fortune: Freespace & Matthews Expand Deal

Freespace Robotics secures expanded investment from Matthews Automation Solutions and deploys its high-density ASRS at a new Atlanta center.

Matthews Automation Solutions, a division of Matthews International Corporation, has increased its strategic investment in Freespace Robotics, a leading innovator in autonomous storage and order fulfillment systems, by acquiring a flagship Freespace Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) for system integration and deployment in its recently opened Atlanta center.

The announcement comes after Freespace was included in Matthews Automation Solution's booth at ProMat 2025, which was a successful joint exhibition. Logistics experts, integrators, and facility owners looking for next-generation, high-throughput order fulfillment automation expressed a great deal of interest in the relationship.

For their creative high-density cube design, Freespace actually took home the Startup of the Year award at the event. Building on that success, Freespace will join Matthews Automation Solutions at MODEX 2026 to showcase new deployment models and improved capabilities tailored to a variety of warehouse requirements, ranging from the first to the last mile.

Gary Cash, SVP and general manager of Matthews Automation Solutions, stated that Freespace Robotics tackles three major industrial issues: modularity, system interoperability, and quick deployment. They are eager to strengthen their bond and provide their clients with this cutting-edge platform.

The Matthews-supported deployment will serve as a real-time showcase of Freespace's full-stack solution, which seamlessly blends state-of-the-art robotics with Matthews' NEXUS warehouse execution system. The NEXUS WES software will seamlessly integrate with the Freespace hardware to manage inventory, job sequencing, and inbound and outgoing processes. This will allow for real-time insights, control, and efficiency from a single dashboard.
