Business Fortune-Nvidia Leads Europe’s Sovereign AI Revolution with Innovation

Nvidia backs sovereign AI in Europe with local partnerships, as leaders push to cut reliance on US tech giants.

Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, has been advocating for the idea of sovereign AI since 2023. Now, Europe is beginning to pay attention and take action. The theory is founded on the notion that every country must build and possess its own AI because every region has a unique language, knowledge base, history, and culture.

While underlining the dearth of AI infrastructure in the region, the CEO of the artificial intelligence chipmaker announced a number of projects and partnerships during a tour of Europe's main cities last week, including London, Paris, and Berlin. His idea has begun to gain support in a region where governments are growing more concerned about the continent's reliance on a small number of American tech companies, and after angering US President Donald Trump.

Huang stated in Paris on Wednesday that although billions of dollars would be invested here, Europe must advance swiftly in the field of artificial intelligence. In a bid to become a global leader in AI development rather than just a user, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced last Monday a £1 billion ($1.35 billion) investment to boost computing capacity.

At VivaTech, one of the world’s largest tech conferences, French President Emmanuel Macron described building AI infrastructure as a key part of their struggle for sovereignty. The digital sovereignty and economic future of Europe's leading economy were emphasized by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after Nvidia announced plans to construct an AI cloud platform in Germany alongside Deutsche Telekom.
