The 2025 World Humanoid Robot Sports Games will take place in Beijing from August 15–17, featuring humanoid robots competing in athletic and real-world performance events.
Get ready to experience a unique athletic event which is going to create a history. The event will take place at two famous locations, the National Stadium and the National Speed Skating Oval, both constructed for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. This is the first time humanoid robots have participated in a full-scale multisport competition. The city successfully hosted the world's inaugural humanoid robot half marathon in April.
During a press conference on Wednesday, Zhang Hua from the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Sports stated that by replicating human movements, advancements in motion algorithms and the optimization of mechanical structures will be achieved, illustrating ongoing developments in robotics technology and an optimistic perspective on human-robot synchronization.
As reported by China Central Television, there will be 11 unique events throughout the games. These include both performance-based and scenario-based activities, as well as robot renditions of soccer, gymnastics, and track & field.
Particularly in short-distance sprints, gymnastics routines, and small-team soccer matches, the sports category will evaluate the robots' speed, coordination, and teamwork. You may anticipate both solo and coordinated dance routines—yes, robots dancing—in the performance segment.
The scenario-based contests, however, where robots will do duties from actual professions, are arguably the most intriguing. These include industrial item handling, concierge services, and medication sorting, all of which are intended to assess a person's motor skills and decision-making ability.
