"TIME Honors Demis Hassabis for AI Breakthroughs in Science"

The CEO of Google DeepMind, Demis Hassabis, is listed among TIME's 100 Most Influential People for 2025 because of his innovative work in AI, which includes AlphaFold.

TIME magazine published its highly sought-after list of the world's 100 Most Influential People earlier this week. Among those included was Demis Hassabis, the tech giant's AI research facility.

Hassabis expressed his gratitude for being included on the cover of TIME in a post on the social media site X, congratulating everyone else featured there. The article, he mentioned, was a beautiful piece by none other than the talented Jennifer Doudna. Google CEO Sundar Pichai has responded to Hassabis' recognition.

Sundar Pichai replied with "Congratulations!" on his post. As Hassabis noted, the TIME article in question was written by Nobel Laureate Jennifer Doudna, who is co-founder of the Innovative Genomics Institute.

Demis Hassabis is pushing the limits of what is feasible in scientific study, according to Jennifer Doudna. Significant advancements in biology and health are already being fueled by his work at DeepMind, especially the creation of AlphaFold, which earned him a portion of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. With the help of his AI methodologies, laboratories across the world are trying to resolve complicated problems like antibiotic resistance, rare genetic disorders, and climate-change-exacerbated agricultural challenges.

TIME has annually published a list of 100 people who are making great strides in various fields, ranging from politics to technology to art. Some other distinguished new entrants this year are Donald Trump, Muhammad Yunus, Elon Musk, Reshma Kewalramani, and Serena Williams.
