Meta AI expands to 41 European countries and 21 territories, overcoming regulatory hurdles to bring its AI assistant to WhatsApp, Facebook, and more.
Meta AI finally made its way to Europe on Thursday, eight months after the Facebook owner declared it would postpone the deployment of the AI tool owing to regulatory concerns.
Meta AI will launch in 21 foreign territories in addition to 41 European nations, which will be the service's largest worldwide growth to date. In the UK, Meta AI is already accessible on a number of sites, such as Instagram, but it will soon be accessible on the well-known messaging app WhatsApp.
Located within Meta's apps, the multimodal, multilingual AI assistant may be called upon for a variety of activities, like group chat brainstorming and content curation related to a trip an individual is taking. Additionally, the assistant's conversation feature will be accessible in six additional European languages as part of Meta AI's EU growth.
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, and Nick Clegg, the former president of global affairs, have both expressed their displeasure with the EU authorities' tardiness in approving the company's European Meta AI. Zuckerberg described it as "sad" that Europeans were falling behind in December of last year. However, the business has persisted and is now certain that it can apply Meta AI in the area while following the regulations.
Europeans have had to wait a long time to be able to experience the same AI features on Facebook and Messenger as their friends across the Atlantic, since Meta AI was introduced in the US in September 2023.
