IAEA Launches E-Learning Series on Nuclear Safety Standards

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has made its e-learning course on safety standards available online, allowing global efforts to ensure the proper use of nuclear technologies.

This new initiative aims to enhance the understanding and efficient implementation of these standards globally, which are designed to protect lives of those involved, safeguard the environment, and build trust in nuclear applications across sectors such as energy, healthcare and manufacturing.

Lydie Evrard, Deputy Director General of IAEA and Head of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, highlighted the importance of this effort, stating that the IAEA safety standards represent an international consensus on what sets a high level of safety, forming the foundation of the IAEA's mission to shield and protect the people as well as the environment from the harmful effects of radiation.

The free e-learning series is intended for operators, regulators, and other users of IAEA safety standards and consists of 13 lessons in total. Users can finish individual courses on specific subjects or the full series to gain a thorough understanding of nuclear safety rules.

The introductory lesson, which is accessible in all six official IAEA languages, describes the structure and goals of the safety standards, as well as how the safety basics, safety requirements, and safety recommendations work together to create a strong safety framework.
