Google Chrome sale

According to Bloomberg, the court may rule by August 2025 on whether Google needs to sell Chrome, contingent on its efforts to increase competition.

According to "Bloomberg" News, which cited sources, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) intends to request an appeal court to mandate that Alphabet's Google sell its Chrome browser. Bloomberg reports that after the same judge ruled in August that Google had unlawfully monopolized the search market, the DOJ would ask the judge to impose further remedies, such as restrictions on Google's Android and artificial intelligence (AI) efforts.

Following a U.S. judge's August ruling that the tech giant unlawfully maintained its dominance in the search industry, Google is now facing yet another obstacle in its continuing antitrust struggle. According to Bloomberg, Lee-Anne Mulholland, vice president of Google Regulatory Affairs, stated that the DOJ is promoting a radical agenda that will hurt consumers and goes well beyond the legal concerns in this case.

According to Mulholland, the Justice Department is still pursuing a radical goal that extends well beyond the case's legal concerns. The government's thumb on the scale in these ways, she added, will hurt innovators, customers, and American technology leadership just when it's most needed.

The Department of Justice will ask the same court to place more limitations on Google's AI and Android smartphone operating systems after the August finding that Google unlawfully monopolized search. Judge Amit Mehta will be asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to force Google to divest its Chrome browser.

With a final ruling anticipated by August 2025, the court is preparing to take up Google's antitrust challenge. According to Bloomberg, if Google makes certain changes and increases competition in the search engine sector, authorities could reconsider the requirement for the corporation to sell out Chrome.

For the first time in decades, the US government accused a large corporation of illegal monopolization in the historic 2020 Google search lawsuit.
