A new live-action series for Prime Video by Amazon is based on Sega's popular Like a Dragon video game series, previously called Yakuza.

This six-episode original series, simply named Like a Dragon: Yakuza, is directed by Masaharu Take, who is most known for the drama series The Naked Director. The highly acclaimed Japanese drama and stage actress Ryoma Takeuchi plays Kazuma Kiryu in the Made in Japan series.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza will be available on Amazon Prime globally in over 240 countries and territories, released in two parts on October 25 and November 1, 2024.

The Yakuza video game inspired the screenplay for the live-action crime-suspense series. The game takes place in the Kamurocho nightlife district and focuses on Kiryu and his three childhood friends in two different time periods: 1995 and 2005.

Kiryu, the main character of the show, is a powerful Yakuza warrior known for his strong sense of justice and humanity. The plot focuses on the outcomes of his choices over two different time periods. Takeuchi mentioned that the episode will have intense fighting scenes, alluding to the series' reputation for its wild action.

At a press conference held today at the charming Hotel Gajoen Tokyo, the series was announced. Takeuchi and Take discussed turning the popular video game series into a live-action drama at the event.
