Meril Lifesciences, a Gujarat-based medical devices company, has launched the MISSO robotic system for knee replacements, which aims at transforming the setting of orthopedic surgery. Manufactured and designed completely in India, reducing costs significantly, making surgery accessible to a vast population.

The cost of necessary consumables for the MISSO robotic system would cost Rs 25,000 to Rs 35,000 in the robotic systems.

"With the launch of MISSO, we are not just introducing a cutting-edge technology but also paving the way for more affordable and precise knee replacement surgeries," Manish Deshmukh, Head of Marketing, India & Global, said at Meril Lifesciences.

The MISSO system claims quite a few technological expansions, including AI integration that decreases pre-operative preparation time by a notable 83%. This modernization allows surgeons to create modified surgical plans to each patient's unique bone structure while also enhancing surgical results and predicting recovery periods.

India, with the rapid necessity of healthcare, specifically in Tier II and III cities, is gaining benefits from an efficient and affordable MISSO system. With the reduction of cost with imported robotic systems, the company aims to speed up the implementation of robotic surgery across the country.

Into the future, Meril Lifesciences plans to manufacture and design to install over 1000 units of MISSO systems in the next three years, initially starting with 200 units. Additionally expanding its portfolio to add more orthopedic applications, showcasing its dedication to developing medical technology in India

With regulatory approvals in sight, Meril Lifesciences is poised to export the MISSO system to international markets, further setting its position as a leader in innovative healthcare solutions on a global scale.
