GUVI, an educational technology startup and part of the HCL group, has added Large Language Model (LLM) features to its platform.
These features help users learn concepts in their own language, even if it is not formal.
Users can upload English course videos on the AI-enabled platform, and the platform will translate them into their preferred language.
It also offers capabilities that allow for customized learning to fit the unique requirements and preferences of students. According to a release, this means that, in contrast to existing AI models, GUVI would enable users to interact with AI in their native tongue—even slang terms like "Tanglish"—for a seamless learning experience.
In addition to helping students learn in their home tongues, GUVI was founded at IIT Madras as a platform that provided tech education in regional languages. It also offered specialized IT courses to help students advance their skills and prepare for the workforce. The new LLM feature is expected to increase the number of tier-2 and tier-3 students proficient in technological concepts, with over 2.5 million learners already.
Arun Prakash, CEO of Guvi, stated that his company understands the value of language diversity in education, especially in India, a nation with such a diverse population. They ensure that the AI understands and responds to users in their everyday language using ChatGPT and informal datasets. This promotes inclusivity and accessibility in education while honoring India's linguistic history.
Currently, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada are the vernacular languages in which GUVI's LLM will be available. In the near future, the company intends to release other vernacular languages. According to a press statement, consumers can now access the LLM for free going forward.
