Verizon and National Hockey League to deploy Private 5G Network in NHL arenas

Verizon, recognized as the "Official 5G Network of the NHL," has announced a multi-year sponsorship extension with the National Hockey League (NHL®), reinforcing its position as the League’s Official 5G Partner, Official Wireless Services Partner, and Official Mobile Edge Computing Partner in the United States. In addition to its role as an Official Technology Partner for the NHL, Verizon has been entrusted with deploying the Verizon Private 5G Wireless Network across NHL arenas to facilitate the implementation of innovative solutions for game day operations, aimed at advancing the sport and enhancing the overall fan experience.

Kyle Malady, CEO of Verizon Business, emphasized the alignment of this partnership with Verizon's vision for innovation and technological advancement. He highlighted the collaborative efforts with the NHL to leverage transformative network connectivity to benefit venues and fans. As part of the agreement, Verizon Business is currently conducting pilot tests of the Verizon Private 5G Wireless Network in select arenas, with plans to expand this technology to NHL arenas in the coming seasons. By harnessing Verizon's 5G network technology and Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), the NHL and other enterprises can customize solutions to meet specific business needs, offering enhanced reliability, security, speed, and flexibility both on and off the ice. Advanced technologies enabled by Verizon 5G, such as wireless officials’ iPads for replay review and video coaching, are already being piloted at venues like the Prudential Center.
