Netflix unveils a redesigned foldable device experience, starting on iPhone Duo with posture-aware controls and a hinge-reactive glow.
Netflix has announced a redesigned app built for foldable phones, with the Netflix foldable device experience launching first on Apple's iPhone Duo, Adgully reported Tuesday.
At a glance: Netflix redesigned its app to adapt to how a foldable is held, with a flexible home screen and a posture-aware player. The iPhone Duo gets it first. A vertical-to-horizontal playback switch is coming soon and expanded Clips feeds follow in 2027.
What does the Netflix foldable device experience change?
A flexible home screen aims to deliver a big-screen feel the moment the app opens. The player does the heavier lifting. Its controls shift depending on how the device is held, adapting across full screen, book pose, tent pose and tabletop modes so they stay within easy thumb reach. A reflective glow in the player also tracks the angle of the physical hinge.
Why is the iPhone Duo getting it first?
Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, its first foldable, in September, with a 7.6-inch screen when opened. Netflix was among a handful of pre-release partners that rebuilt their iOS apps for it, Variety reported. A Netflix spokesperson said members want the "immersive, big-screen feeling to travel with them." The iOS 27 version reworks Billboard, the new playback controls and Clips for the larger display.
How does this fit Netflix's wider mobile push?
Netflix introduced its vertical Clips feed and streamlined navigation in a phone redesign earlier this year, starting in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines and South Africa. The foldable work extends that overhaul to a new class of hardware.
What comes next for Netflix on mobile?
Soon, Netflix says, playback will flip between vertical and horizontal video instantly and frame-accurately. No date has been given. Clips, the short-form discovery feed, gets themed categories and specialized feeds mapped to genres, moods and viewer interests in 2027. Elizabeth Stone, Netflix's Chief Product and Technology Officer, said when the phone redesign launched that the company aims to deliver "increasingly personalized, immersive experiences for any mood or moment."
Will it reach Android foldables?
Nobody has said so. Neither Adgully's report nor Netflix's public comments mention Android foldables, so a Samsung or Pixel rollout is speculation for now. Samsung's Galaxy Z foldables do have a separate Netflix tie-in: a Now Brief integration that suggests titles and resumes playback.
Netflix is treating the fold as a new kind of screen, with controls that follow the hinge and a home screen that opens big. The iPhone Duo version comes first and Netflix has said what it will add next but not when the iPhone Duo version goes live.
Business Fortune concludes as the open questions are the rollout date and whether Android foldables get the same treatment.
