Meta is experimenting with a Threads trending topics feature

Users of Threads will be able to observe the conversations that are trending on the platform thanks to a new feature that Meta is testing. As per Mark Zuckerberg's post on Threads, the app is now testing "today's top topics" in the US.

According to Meta, the feature will present "timely topics that others are discussing" and will show up in search and between posts in the app's For You feed. According to Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, certain trends will be "determined by our AI systems based on what people are engaging with right now on Threads."

It's interesting to note that Threads will highlight political and electoral patterns. The business declared last week that unless consumers specifically request it, it will no longer include political information in its suggestions. However, Meta has stated that its trending feature will remain unrestricted. "Political content is a topic," an Engadget representative for Meta stated. "Political topics will only be removed if they are in violation of our community guidelines or any other applicable integrity policies."

Many Threads users have long asked for the incorporation of trends, believing that this would improve the service's usefulness as a real-time information and update source. The capability was first discovered in an app for employees, but it was unclear if Meta would use it more widely given Mosseri's wish to refrain from "encouraging" discussions about "politics and hard news."
