KSTOA calls for immediate financial relief measures as the West Asia crisis disrupts international travel and commerce.

The Karnataka State Travel Operators' Association (KSTOA) has urged the government to announce immediate financial relief measures for the transportation and tourism industries, citing the severe distress caused by the ongoing West Asia crisis. The association highlighted that economic activity, particularly in Karnataka tourism, has been greatly harmed by the disruption of foreign travel and commerce in a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 7.

Transport operators and tourism investors throughout Karnataka and the nation have been impacted by the dramatic drop in demand caused by the suspension of airline operations and decreased international travel. KSTOA President K. Radhakrishna Holla emphasized the seriousness of the situation, saying that the industry is under extreme financial strain and needs immediate action to maintain operations and safeguard jobs. For all transport vehicles, the group has requested relief measures for a minimum of three months.

A delay of direct and indirect taxes without penalties, a temporary relaxation of employees' State Insurance (ESI) and Provident Fund (PF) contributions, and a suspension on bank loan repayment for car owners are some of the main requests. The association has also asked for interest-free working capital to assist operators with daily expenses. In accordance with government policy, KSTOA also recognized difficulties encountered by operators who made investments in National Alternative Fuel vehicles.

These operators are currently having financial difficulties as a result of gasoline supply limitations, which is why the group is looking for specific incentives for these car owners and drivers. The association went on to say that prompt government assistance is essential to preserving economic stability, characterizing the transportation industry as the foundation of travel and commerce.

Thus, Business Fortune is of the view that swift government intervention is crucial to sustain Karnataka’s transportation and tourism sectors.
