Surrey Predawn Shooting Arrest

Anti-extortion patrol officers caught three young suspects in a ride-hail vehicle minutes after gunfire and a fire were reported outside a Surrey home.

Three young foreign nationals have been charged with shooting at a residence near Crescent Beach. This incident raises concerns about problems related to extortion and gun violence occurring in the Surrey area recently. An anti-extortion task force had been formed by the Surrey Police, and they were patrolling. When Project Assurance patrol members responded to a shooting at around 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, they discovered evidence of gunfire and a fire in front of the house.

While on an anti-extortion patrol known as Project Assurance, officers located and arrested three suspects in a ride-hail vehicle shortly after hearing several gunshots coming from the area. The three suspects range in age from 19 to 21 years old. The suspects are Harjot Singh, Taranveer Singh, and Dayajeet Singh Billing. All three were taken into custody and charged with a Criminal Code offence for discharging a firearm into a place and remanded until Thursday of this week.

Because these men are foreign nationals, the police department has notified the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) regarding them for possible immigration consequences following their charges.

Surrey Police Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton said that members of the police department had responded to shooting incidents that had occurred at the Crescent Beach property prior to locating the suspects in the ride-hail vehicle, and also observed some problems during the arrest of the suspects that resulted in injuries to two of the three suspects.
