OpenAI and Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched a long term planned relationship that would enable OpenAI to operate and expand its core artificial intelligence operations immediately using AWS's outstanding infrastructure.

OpenAI is gaining access to AWS computing infrastructure, which includes hundreds of thousands of advanced NVIDIA GPUs and can grow to tens of millions of CPUs to quickly scale agentic tasks, under this new $38 billion deal, which will continue to expand over the span of seven years. With networks over 500K chips, AWS has unique experience operating huge AI infrastructure securely, regularly, and at scale. AWS's experience in cloud infrastructure combined with OpenAI's leading innovations in generative AI will help millions of users keep receiving value from ChatGPT.

In recognition of AWS's efficiency, scalability, and security, edge model providers are increasingly using it to push their models to new intelligence levels.  As part of this collaboration, OpenAI will begin using AWS compute shortly, with the aim of installing all capacity by the end of 2026 and being able to grow into 2027 and further.
