Business Fortune: Ronaldo Hits Billionaire Mark

Cristiano Ronaldo entered record to his legendary career this time, signing with Al Nassr.

Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo has officially entered the billionaire club, a first in the sport’s history. Bloomberg Billionaire Index has confirmed that his assets are valued a whooping at $1.4 billion.

Ronaldo’s revenue sum over the years has come from a combination of sponsorship deals, personal business ventures, and hefty pay. While his earnings in Europe were equal to Messi’s for much of their parallel professions, in 2023, Ronaldo signed with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, and the balance shifted. This move reportedly carried a tax-free package value of $200 million a year in income and bonuses, in addition to $30 million signing bonus. Bloomberg estimates Ronaldo earned in the year 2002 and 2023 more than $550 million.

Brand endorsements have been a significant contributor to his fortune. A decade-long deal with Nike brings him around $18 million annually, while collaborations with brands such as Armani and Castrol have boosted $175 million his total fortune.

In contrast, Messi has accumulated an estimated $600 million in pre-tax salary over his career. After signing with Inter Miami in Major League Soccer in 2023, the Argentine secured an annual salary of around $20 million.

Beyond the football field, Ronaldo has built an empire under his CR7 brand, which encompasses hotels, a gym, and a fashion line. He also owns multiple luxury properties, including a €20 million estate in Quinta da Marinha, an exclusive golf resort located near Lisbon.

If his wealth weren’t confirmation of his global pull, his social media reach certainly is. With over 660 million Instagram followers, he remains the most followed person on the platform, a testament to his effect, unparalleled and global appeal in the world of football.
