Business Fortune: FCMB, IFC Empower Women in Nigeria

First City Monument Bank Ltd. (FCMB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) have partnered to introduce the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women course in an attempt to promote entrepreneurship.

Over 200,000 entrepreneurs worldwide have been reached by Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women, an international program that promotes economic growth by giving them hands-on training, engaging activities, and guidance from professors from leading business schools.

The 10,000 Women Online education program, created by Goldman Sachs and administered by the University of Leeds, is available to all SMEs and offers access to all ten courses as well as the opportunity to become a member of the 10,000 Women alumni group.

Over the last five years, FCMB has made a substantial contribution to the development of female entrepreneurs in Nigeria by means of its SheVentures project, carrying on a tradition of supporting women entrepreneurs. The program has provided zero-interest loans up to N800 million, as well as training and mentorship to thousands of women-led SMEs.

According to First City Monument Bank Managing Director Yemisi Edun, enabling female entrepreneurs is crucial for promoting economic growth, job creation, and innovation. In keeping with our mission to promote equitable and sustainable growth, this program will help them develop their abilities and open up new business options.

FCMB's Divisional Head of Business Banking, George Ogbonnaya, highlighted the bank's dedication to SMEs, saying the cooperation will support sustainable growth for everyone and advance gender equality in the entrepreneurial environment.

On August 31, 2025, the 10,000 Women Online initiatives for Nigerian women entrepreneurs, both new and seasoned, will come to an end. The deadline for applications was August 1, 2025.
