Sabih Khan becomes Apple COO, focusing on supply chain, India, and sustainability efforts.
Jeff Williams has served as Apple's Chief Operating Officer (COO) since 2015 and has been replaced by Sabih Khan. As part of Apple's lasting strategy, the leadership shift is scheduled to take place later this month. Born in Moradabad, India's Uttar Pradesh In the fifth grade, Sabih Khan moved to Singapore. He joined Apple in 1995 and is currently the Senior Vice President of Operations. He has been instrumental in creating and overseeing Apple's global supply chain over the years.
Khan's current responsibilities include working with suppliers, manufacturing, shipping and product planning. He is also in charge of Apple's initiatives to improve labor standards throughout its supply chain and promote sustainability. Under his direction, Apple has reduced its carbon footprint by over 60% and made significant strides in adopting eco-friendly practices.
Tim Cook is the CEO of Apple has commended Khan for being a smart and progressive leader who has kept the business strong in the face of global adversity. Additionally, Khan has organized initiatives to expand Apple's manufacturing operations in the United States and other countries, such as India. Khan joined Apple after starting his career at GE Plastics. He studied economics and mechanical engineering at Tufts University before pursuing a master's degree in mechanical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Jeff Williams will continue to work at Apple until his retirement this year. He will remain in charge of the health initiatives and design team until then. Tim Cook will be the direct supervisor of Apple's design team after he departs. Khan's promotion reflects Apple's growing focus on India and improving the robustness and environmental friendliness of its supply chain.
