Perplexity Adds Voice Assistant to iPhone for Easier Access

Perplexity provides a good substitute even as Apple prepares its updated Siri assistant, which is powered by Apple Intelligence.

Perplexity Assistant, a voice-activated AI tool that can now carry out real-world tasks directly on users' iPhones, is a significant update for iOS users from Perplexity AI. As a result, Perplexity is now the only assistant that integrates practical task execution with intelligent responses—all without ever leaving the app.

Perplexity Assistant, in contrast to Siri or ChatGPT Voice, is made to do more than just respond to inquiries; it may actually take action. Using natural voice commands, it can play particular media, compose emails, reschedule calendar events, reserve restaurants, order transportation, and set reminders.

Perplexity currently comes pre-installed with Apple Mail and Music. Soon, Gmail and Google Calendar support will be added, increasing the app's value for users with digital lives that span multiple platforms.

With three to four seconds of activation delay, the assistant can be activated by voice. Additionally, users of the iPhone can designate the Action button (found on more recent models) to activate Perplexity Voice Mode, transforming a single tap into a gateway for AI-powered actions.

The assistant is unable to set native alarms or control essential iOS system settings like screen brightness, volume, or flashlight due to Apple's developer restrictions. The Perplexity team has, however, developed an in-app reminder workaround.
