Reach’s New Video Studios Revolutionize UK News Content Creation

Reach's investment in state-of-the-art video studios and a staff of 120 people is revolutionizing the creation of content, increasing ad revenue, and increasing audience engagement.

Reach's investment in employees and video studios has been called a "game-changer" for its connections with marketers and viewers.

New, advanced studios for The Mirror, Express, Star, and regional publications are now operational in London, Manchester, Glasgow, and Birmingham. Work is also proceeding in Liverpool and a renovated location in Newcastle.

The goal was to provide a location for content production to each of Reach's largest newsrooms. In the past, employees in London had to rent equipment and space from outside parties in order to make movies or create podcasts. As an alternative, they may forgo big projects altogether or shoot in an open workplace or on Zoom.

Reach announced a 120-person studio team last year to create editorial and commercial audio and video content for its businesses around the UK. This helped to boost income from sponsored content partnerships and direct social video buys, as well as the 12% annual growth in social video views in 2024.

Reach Studio's director, Mark Field, told the Press Gazette that the addition of audiovisual capabilities changed the game for them in two ways: first, it improved their reputation with advertisers; and second, it allowed them to reach new audiences.

Field claimed that establishing a central team eighteen months ago facilitated the internal revenue case for more audio and video spending.

In an unusual partnership between two publications on opposite ends of the political spectrum, the political editors of the Mirror and the Express launched The Division Bell podcast in June. According to Field, this provided them the assurance that the format was effective before they made a larger investment.
