Mopso Secures €1M to Boost AML & Financial Crime Prevention

Mopso uses semantic web technologies and digital identification to expedite compliance processes.

Mopso, a RegTech business that specializes in anti-money laundering and financial crime prevention, has acquired €1 million in seed investment. Andrea Danielli, a former executive of Banca d'Italia, and Enrico Fagnoni, a serial entrepreneur, founded Mopso in Milan in 2021. The company offers banks and financial institutions a modular software platform to combat money laundering. The organization uses semantic web technologies and digital identification to expedite compliance procedures.

Mopso's flagship products include Brain, which integrates millions of internal data points with external datasets and Open Source Intelligence to identify suspicious transactions and high-risk clients, and Amlet, which converts due diligence data into verifiable credentials, allowing it to be portable and reusable within an ecosystem of intermediaries. This streamlines the onboarding process and aligns it with the European Digital Identity Wallet architecture.

The startup, which serves banks and asset management organizations, had a 70% revenue rise in 2024, owing to the creation of new business lines. Investors included Apside, Intesa Sanpaolo, and Zest S.p.A.'s 50/50 investment joint venture, as well as Fin+Tech, Centro Istruttorie, and a number of business angels.

Mopso will be able to expand its commercial operations into a few European regions and add new features to its product portfolio thanks to the seed round.
